The West Midlands Regional Clinical Genetics Service is based at Birmingham Women's Hospital. General and specialist genetic clinics are held in many clinic venues across the region.
Clinical genetics appointments
Patients assessed as meeting the high risk criteria will be offered an appointment to discuss the implications of the family history, genetic risk and management issues, as well as the role and possibility of molecular genetic testing.
A patient will usually be offered an appointment at a local centre (see local pages for clinic venue information). An appointment will also be arranged at the local surveillance unit on a different date to undertake and discuss the results of recommended surveillance.
The information that will be discussed with patients may be covered over the course of several separate appointments, depending upon the needs and wishes of individuals. Most clinical genetics appointments will last about 45 minutes.
- Appointments for patients considering having a predictive test if a mutation has been identified in the family
- Appointments for patients at high risk and but a mutation has not yet been identified in the family
