Governor Profiles

Satinder Kaur Tanuque - Public South Birmingham
Member, Standing Appointments Committee

Satinder is a postgraduate in education, a retired teacher and a former governor of Chilcote Primary school. She is currently a volunteer chaplain at Heartlands Hospital. She has worked on many health projects in a professional capacity including perinatal mortality, stillbirth, breastfeeding gastroenteritis, antenatal, postnatal care, relaxation, rickets, osteomalacia and dental care.

She gave birth to her two children and received excellent care at the Women’s Hospital and she therefore has a special bond with the hospital. She always wanted to ‘give something back’ and as a result Satinder helped to fundraise a substantial amount for the new Neonatal Unit at the Women’s Hospital in 2009.

Satinder has excellent experience of working with the community at large for the last 42 years and in recognition of her community and voluntary work she was awarded the Punjabi Cultural Award on behalf of the Punjabis in Britain All Party Parliamentary Group at the House of Commons and “Ambassador For Peace” by the Interreligious International Federation for World Peace.

Fiona Anderson - Public South Midlands
Fiona specialises in change and transformation. Her aim as a Governor is to use her expertise to both support the Hospital to deliver its strategic objectives whilst adopting the role of critical friend to challenge and address key issues for patients and stakeholders. Fiona represents the public in the South Midlands

Jayne Wilkinson - Public South Midlands

"

I'm 42 years old with a teenage daughter and I've been married to my husband for 25 years _ I'm currently an Elected local borough councillor with SMBC representing Tividale ward in Sandwell since 2010.
My working background is retail with interests in the trade union as a representative for USDAW.
I'm also involved with my local community as Director and Chair of RECA ( Rood End Community Association)".

Lorraine Groves - Patient and Carer
Member, Standing Appointments Committee
Co-opted, Women's Counci

"I was attending an outpatients department at The Women's Hospital, when I was handed a leaflet about the hospital becoming a Foundation Trust and that they were looking for members of the public to become Governor

I had spent several years working in Market Research in a management position and was used to talking to the general public and felt it was invaluable experience that may have some positive effect. I also felt that it was a chance to give something back to the hospital for all the care and attention I received from the doctors and nurses at the Womens Hospital.

I had recently spent time with my father taking him to several other hospitals in this region, for various reasons, and thought I had some useful experience to offer in different levels of patient care, from the actual patient experience."

Jean Perks - Patient and Carer
Co-opted, Women's Council

"

When invited to become a Governor in 2008, I felt it was pay-back time, as I had also been an earlier patient in 1968 awaiting the birth of my second son. Governors' meetings have proved an interesting and rewarding three years- the early months being a real learning curve.
I was recently re-elected for a second term where I hope I can make a useful contribution."

Dr Vivien Mautner - University of Birmingham
A Reader in Virology within the School of Cancer Sciences of the University's Medical School.

"My principal interest is in adenovirus biology. Current research is focussed on the natural history of adenovirus infection, and how the virus remains latent or persistent after primary infection. The interaction of adenovirus with the immune system is also under investigation, particularly in relation to bone marrow transplant recipients who succumb to serious adenovirus infections; the objective is to develop immunotherapy to treat such infections. The use of adenovirus as a therapeutic agent in cancer gene therapy continues as part of the translational medicine programme within the Institute"
