Incubator
Because a premature baby has difficulty in maintaining its body temperature
it is placed inside an incubator.
The air within the incubator is maintained at a specific temperature and is continually circulated by a fan.
The incubator provides good visibility and access to the baby by both staff and parents.
Syringe
Pump, Volumetric Infusion Pump
These devices introduce solutions into the body by means
other than the natural oral route.
These fluids are typically used for three major purposes:
a). Maintaining the baby’s fluid / electrolytic balance.
b). Providing the baby’s nutritional needs
c). Intravenous drug therapy. The pumps allow for infusions to be given continuously and controlled accurately.
The syringe pump provides low volume / short term infusions, with the Volumetric Infusion pump allowing for much higher volumes over a longer time to be infused.
Neonatal
Monitor
The monitor is used to measure and display the neonate’s
physiological condition, for example heart rate, respiration, blood pressure
and temperature.
The display would be as a numeric and or a waveform.
The monitor also generates alarms and records the information that it is displaying.
Ventilator
The ventilator is there to supplement the baby’s natural
breathing.
Artificial ventilation is required when spontaneous breathing is not good enough to provide the oxygen supply and / or carbon dioxide excretion that the baby requires.
