Induction or Augmentation of Labour

Postdates:

Once you have reached your due date then we will offer you a sweep of the membranes to encourage labour to start naturally.

Ruptured Membranes

Sometimes the waters break in advance of labour starting. If this happens you will be encouraged to return home to await events once we have seen you to advise you of the choices available. If labour does not then start naturally,  the choices are outlined in our Premature Rupture of Membranes leaflet

Other reasons:

Sometimes we need to offer you an induction of labour if it is safer not to continue with the pregnancy for wither you or your baby.
